This expansion wasn't quite what I was expecting. I'd thought it was a new campaign, instead it's just a single mission although I believe you can play this and some other missions in co-op mode.
I had a bit of trouble getting this expansion to work, it wasn't until I'd installed Fist Alpha that it decided to work for me. Strangely enough, others have reported that they can run the expansion with just the original game.
Being a free expansion it's hard to complain too much but complain I shall. This mission has an odd difficultly level ranging from easy to hard. The easy part are the regular enemy soldiers. Because you start with a sniper rifle it's not too hard to take them out at range. However, the VC have their own snipers and these guys are lethal. Their range is incredible, I've been killed by some who I would have sworn couldn't see me due to the amount of distance involved. For that matter, I was definetly killed by some who couldn't have possibly hit me since I was on the other side of a hill or a downed helicopter. This kind of highlights one of the long running problems with Vietcong - the enemy have essentially perfect eyesight and can see through "intangible" objects like leaves. I'm still not sure how they shot me through the hill or the chopper though.
The mission given to you is to rescue the pilot of a downed chopper. This would be less of a pain if your map hinted at where to look. You will be told exactly where he is if you get close enough to the downed chopper he was in - strangely he was near an area I'd already cleared without seeing him, I'm pretty sure he just magically appears when you get close enough to the chopper.
The enemy snipers are the hard part of the game. Approaching them head on is usually suicide - you need to sneak up from behind or the side and take them out. You start with an M1 Garand scoped rifle. The number of bullets you have isn't enough. Thankfully the enemy snipers have Dragunov rifles and some ammo you can steal.
To make matters even harder, there seem to be no medical kits to be found. You start with one but the VC don't carry any spares, unlike the regular campaigns.
All up, the new mission is free and the expansion somes with some more multiplayer maps. The mission is worth a shot if you are fan of Vietcong but I feel it's more of a pain than a thrill - the main part is locating the enemy snipers before they spot you.
