Storyline
“You are one of eight survivors desperately trying to live through the night in the aftermath of a devastating biological disaster that has turned everyone around you into flesh eating zombies. The only way you'll escape the horrors of Raccoon City is by teaming up with those who remain uninfected to discover the secrets behind the catastrophic events leading up to the T-virus outbreak. Yet how will you know who to trust when no one is sure who...or what...the enemy is?”
Loading Times
PS2 games have never really been fast-loaders, and with File #2 there is no difference. They are not unbearable, but you could be doing a lot more than just staring at a black screen for 15 seconds.
Controls
It takes some time to learn the controls of the game, as you have to hold/press a few buttons just to aim and shoot, but once you get it you’ll see the controls do work fairly well.
Camera Angles
Camera angles cannot be changed by the player, they are automatically switched by the game itself, and this is probably the low point of the game. The camera angles chosen are very annoying, and it is very hard sometimes pick up objects required.
Allies & AI
When starting a mission you can choose to take two allies along – each with their own benefits – sadly, the AI is as bad as a rock. For example, I was playing for the first time and the AI seemed perfectly find, after I walked through a few doors however I realized I lost one of my allies, and the other one ran off somewhere – it took me ages to find them, and when I did I was confronted by enemies. My allies merely stood their watching as I ran out of ammo and fell dead on the floor from the attackers.
Graphics
The graphics contribute greatly to the whole atmosphere of Resident Evil Outbreak : File #2. All the models are highly detailed, smooth; probably the best I have seen on the PS2 console. Every enemy/ally walk, run and attack very fluently, but the mouth movements are a little out of sync in the cinematics.
Conclusion
Resident Evil Outbreak : File #2 is a disappointing game, lacking severely in the game play department. The only real positive thing I can say about the game is that it has awesome graphics, but that doesn’t make all the other problems go away.
