I have long been a fan of MMORPG’s (massive multiplayer online role playing games). They generally involve simply fighting monsters, doing quests, and becoming “all powerful”. Guild Wars is no different, but it has some extra elements that make it special.
The feature that made me want the game was the monthly fee, $0. Most 3d MMORPG’s that are actually good quality make you pay a monthly fee which can be too pricey for the average person. You just pay for the Guild Wars CD’s and that’s it; no more need to spend money.
Like most PC games, the graphical quality is far greater than that of the average console. The characters, monsters, and scenery is beautifully animated, while the textures are crisp and vibrant. Though, I do not even use the best quality in the game, so if you have a high quality computer you are going to be a lot happier.
Quests and Missions
Quests and Missions are the storyline of the game. Sure, you can walk through the entire map instead of doing missions, it’d just take around 3-5 hours to get to each city, and you’d need to kill hundreds of monsters. Missions get you to different places, while quests are just bonuses that give you experience, weapons, skills or armor. The amount of quests and missions give the game a massive amount of game play time. As of this moment I have played for over 35 hours, yet I am not even 30% through the game, and even better is that there will be free expansion packs released occasionally which will add a new storyline.
PvP
Player vs Player mode in Guild Wars is thought to be one of the best PvP modes. I have never been a real fan of the PvP Arena-style games, but I can see why people like it. If you create a PvP Character in Guild Wars you are automatically Level 20. You start off with full attribute points, and get access to some cool armor/weapons. PvP involves joining a team, and simply killing the opposing team. It may just sound like whoever gets the first hit wins, but it is actually a very strategic game. You need to work out the best professions that suit you, and who they work well with.
Overall this MMORPG is a very fun experience. It involves all the usual elements, but it just has the little bit extra. This review only detailed a small amount of the game, there is a lot more to this game then I have listed.
