Elements of Online Play

Online Play is one of the latest ‘crazes’ in gaming. It allows gamers to play games with people from all around the world, instead of just playing against a predefined computer generated character which has limited variables (options).

There are many different elements of online play, such as the story, amount of lag, being able to play with friends, and enhancements to the game. Gamers all have different opinions about the best element of online play, so I went out and asked them what their favorite was.

“Basically the quality of the gameplay and the amount of lag in the game is what I look at online games mostly.”

“The best part, at least for myself, is playing with my friends online; whether it be a quick round of Counter Strike with my buddies before I start on an English essay or a few hours of Warcraft III and Battlefield 1942 when I'm bored, I love the fact that I can interact with my pals, even when I can't be in the same room with them. I also like the fact that so many mods come out; the recently released beta version of "Plan of Attack" for Half Life 2 is a perfect example. It extends the replay ability of the game beyond the single-player portion, and makes the game a value. I love Single Player RPG's, but let's face it, you beat it once, twice, three times tops, and then it's back in the dumper; with online, you know you're getting your money's worth.”

“Just the amount of challenge and unpredictability, that no AI can match.”

“The best is the bit about beating n00bs”

As you can see online play is a popular feature, and in the coming weeks/months you should expect more consoles and games to have this feature.
